Diagnosis and Repair of the CCC

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series) with option 609 (CCC)

E63, E64 (6 Series)

E90, E91, [NEW]E92, [NEW]E93 (3 Series) with option 609 (CCC)

[NEW]E70 (X5) with option 609 (CCC)

SITUATION

Instead of always replacing the complete CCC (Car Communication Computer), individual electronic components of the CCC can be replaced in the event of malfunction.

A pre-requisite for CCC repair is the completion the BMW Technical Training course ST064: E63, E64 Complete Vehicle.

PROCEDURE

A. Diagnosis and replacement of individual electronic components in the CCC.


To diagnose several electronic components in the CCC, there are four test modules available in the GT1/DISplus diagnosis system.

^ Entertainment functions CCC

^ Navigation system CCC

^ Operation of the CCC

^ Single drive's CD and DVD CCC/M-ASK

To test/diagnose the entertainment functions, select:

[NEW] Function selection / Complete vehicle / Body / Audio, video, telephone, navigation (MOST-network) / Entertainment functions

CCC complete

^ Audio amplifier

^ Gateway

^ Main computer

^ CCC fan

^ Minimum speed

^ Maximum speed

^ Noise level

CCC front panel

^ Background light

^ Rotary knob rotation to the right

^ Rotary knob rotation to the left

^ Rotary knob OFF/ON

^ Arrow button forward/up

^ Arrow button backward/down

To test/diagnose the navigation system select:

^ Rotation Rate Sensor (Gyro Sensor)

^ Connection to the rotation rate sensor

^ Connection from the GPS module to the speed signal

^ Connection from the navigation module to the GPS antenna

^ Connection from the navigation module to other control modules

To test/diagnose the operation of the CCC, select:

To test/diagnose the operation of the CCC, select:

[NEW] Individual electronic components may be replaced after testing/diagnosis without submitting a PuMA case to the TC (Teile Clearing Hotline) for authorization

Important:
Observe ESD safety measures when replacing individual electronic components.

An anti-static mat MUST be used - see SI B04 19 04.

The ESD protection kit (P/N 99 00 0 006 667) will be shipped to the BMW Centers shortly.

This kit replaces the special tool 12 7 192 listed in the Repair Instructions.

The listed parts below are available for individual CCC electronic component replacement:

^ Front panel/cover CD

^ CD-ROM drive

^ Navigation DVD drive

^ Gyro sensor

^ HIP (Host Independence Positioning) module, contains the GPS receiver

^ Electric fan

Repair Instructions:

RA 6583010 "Removing and installing/replacing Car Communication Computer"

RA 6583550 "Removing and installing/replacing fan for Car Communication Computer".

RA 6583560 "Removing and installing/replacing front trim for Car Communication Computer".

RA 6583570 "Removing and installing/replacing CD drive for Car Communication Computer".

RA 6583580 "Removing and installing/replacing DVD drive for Car Communication Computer".

[NEW]Special repair note: on vehicles equipped with programmable buttons it is important to note screw location during disassembly and assembly in order to prevent DVD drive eject problems. Refer to the attachment to this service information for further information.

RA 6583590 "Removing and installing/replacing gyro sensor drive for Car Communication Computer".

RA 6583600 "Replacing HIP module for Car Communication Computer".

After individual component part replacement:

Verify that the repair has been done correctly by carrying out the DIS/GT1 Test Plan associated with the replaced component.

B. Complete CCC (Car Communication Computer) control unit replacement.

^ From March 1, 2006 before any CCC is replaced on any model BMW listed in the "MODEL" section of this bulletin, authorization must be obtained via PuMA. Please refer to SI B00 04 02 and SI B84 03 06 for further instructions.
