SUBJECT
Squeaking Noise from the Top of the B-pillar

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series) produced up to 4/2008

SITUATION
A squeaking or grating noise may be heard from the top of the B-pillar when driving over rough roads at very cold ambient temperatures. This noise typically occurs only below approximately 20°F. For noises from this area at high temperatures, refer to SI B51 02 05.

CAUSE
Inadequate bonding between the B-pillar trim and the rear door seal

CORRECTION
Replace the door seal with an updated part. The updated part uses a softer rubber compound.

PROCEDURE
Replace the affected rear door seal with the updated part per Repair Instruction RA51 71 200.
