SUBJECT
Consumption is Set to mpg UK instead of mpg US
MODEL
E60 (5 Series), E63/E64 (6 Series) from start of production.
SITUATION
The consumption in miles per gallon is set to mpg UK (British gallon) instead of mpg US (US gallon).
The incorrect consumption is shown in the instrument cluster and in the board computer.
1 UK gallon = 1.2 US gallon
CAUSE
The default setting for consumption is mpg UK instead of mpg US.
CORRECTION
It is possible to change the setting for consumption from mpg UK to mpg US, after programming/coding the vehicle with CIP 12.0 or higher.
For programming/coding refer to SI B09 05 01 "Coding, Individualization and Programming", Procedure B).
1. Turn Terminal 15 on.
2. Select "Accept"in legal disclaimer by pressing the controller.
3. In the Main Menu select "i" by pressing the controller.
4. Select "Display settings" and press the controller.
5. If a different Menu than "Units" appears, push the controller forward to get to the upper selection line.
6. Select "Units" and press the controller.
7. Select "Consumption mpg UK" in the menu "Units" and press the controller.
8. A second window pops up with selectable options for consumption.
9. Select "mpg US" and press the controller.
10. The consumption is now set to mpg US.
11. To return to the main menu press the "MENU" button in the center console.
12. Advise the customer of this change, because of the lower mpg.
