SUBJECT
SRS Warning Lamp Illuminated, but No Fault Codes Stored

MODEL
E60 (5 Series) vehicles up to September 2005

SITUATION
The red SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) warning lamp is illuminated in the Instrument Cluster but no related faults are stored following the "Short Test". However the "Short Test" shows a fault for CAN communication analysis and when the CAN analysis test module B6131_60116 is run, a fault is shown in the door module. The fault is either 963F for the TEFA (Driver's door module) or 96BF for the TEBF (Passenger's door module).

Using "Control Unit Functions", the affected door module fault shows a fault frequency of "1".

CAUSE
Software error

CORRECTION
In the case of a customer complaint, do not replace parts. Delete the fault, confirm that the SRS warning no longer shows and return the vehicle to the customer. The fault is unlikely to re-occur.
