SUBJECT
Anti-Roll Stabilization Noise

MODEL
E60 (5 Series) and E63/E64 (6 Series) equipped with Dynamic Drive (SA229) and produced before 1/05.

SITUATION

While driving at low speeds, and making slight steering wheel corrections, a metallic noise can be heard from the hydraulic hoses beneath the passenger front foot well.

CAUSE

Anti-Roll Stabilization (ARS) hydraulic hoses may resonate when the directional valve is activated.

CORRECTION

In case of a customer complaint, remove the middle clamp. Replace the front and rear clamps with improved parts.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the three clamps (tubing supports or pipe holders) located between the front axle and rear axle.

Note:
The rear underbody protection can be loosened to allow access to the rear clamp.

2. Install improved clamps, part number: 37 20 6 769 202 (quantity 2) on the front and rear ends. Torque to 8 Nm.

Note:
Position the hydraulic hoses without any tension and with sufficient spacing to adjoining components.

3. Do not install the middle clamp.
