Thermostat: Service and Repair

11 53 000 - Removing and installing/replacing coolant thermostat (M54)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove radiator cover Removing Radiator Cover.
- Remove fan cowl Service and Repair.
- Drain off and top up coolant.





Illustrations show E46.
Pull locks and disconnect water hoses.





Loosen nut (1).
Release screws on thermostat housing, remove thermostat housing.





Installation:
Keep sealing faces clean and free of oil.





Note:
The coolant thermostat is integrated in the coolant thermostat housing and can only be replaced as a complete unit.

Installation:
Replace gasket (1).
