To measure tilt clearance, install a new valve so that end of valve stem is flush with valve guide.
Attach dial gauge and measure tilt clearance.

Note:
Max. permissible tilt clearance Cylinder Head with Cover M54.





Note:
If tilt clearance is excessive, valve guide is reamed out and a repair valve with a larger shaft diameter is installed.

If necessary, ream valve guide Reaming a Valve Guide (M52/S52/M52TU/M54/M56).
