Exhaust System: Service and Repair

18 00 020 - Removing and installing complete exhaust system (M54)





Special tools required:
- 31 2 220 31 2 220 Support Plate





Warning!
Scalding hazard!

Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.





Support exhaust system with special tool 31 2 220 31 2 220 Support Plate.

Note:
Weight of exhaust system is approx. 40 kg.





Detach suspension on front muffler from body.





Release screw connection of flanges on exhaust manifold.

Installation Note:
Replace gaskets.

Replace self-locking nuts.





Unfasten screw connection. Remove front pipe holder.

Installation Note:
After complete installation of exhaust system, align front pipe holder so that it is free from tension.





Release screw connection of holder for front muffler on rear axle differential.





Release screw connection of holder for rear muffler on rear axle carrier.





Warning!
Danger of injury!

Removal of the exhaust system must be carried out with the assistance of a second person.

Note:
Weight of exhaust system is approx. 40 kg.





Release screw connection of holder for rear muffler on tail panel.

Remove complete exhaust system.

If necessary, remove vibration damper and fit on new exhaust system.
