Replacing Both Monitor Sensors (M54)




11 78 613 - Replacing both monitor sensors (M54)





Special tools required:
- 11 7 020 11 7 020 Socket Wrench Socket WAF 22
- 11 7 030 11 7 030 Socket Wrench Socket WAF 22





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Read out fault memory of DME control unit
- Switch off ignition
- Remove cover of fuel injectors
- Remove fresh air duct Service and Repair
- Automatic transmission: Remove exhaust system.
- Manual transmission: Remove reinforcement plate Service and Repair





Warning!
Scalding hazard!
Only perform this task on an engine that has cooled down.





Unclip cable and plug.
Disconnect plug connection.





Note:

Release monitor sensor, cylinders 1-3, with special tool 11 7 030 11 7 030 Socket Wrench Socket WAF 22.





Note:

Release monitor sensor, cylinders 4-6, with special tool 11 7 020 11 7 020 Socket Wrench Socket WAF 22.





Installation Note:
Threads of new monitor sensors are already coated with Never Seez compound.
If a monitor sensor is reused, apply a thin and even coating of Never Seez compound (refer to BMW Parts Service) to the thread only.
Monitor sensor section projecting into exhaust system must not be cleaned or come into contact with lubricant.
Cover monitor sensor when applying underseal.
Tightening torque, 11 78 1AZ 11 78 Emissions-Control, Lambda Oxygen Sensor.





Installation:
Check stored fault messages.
Now clear the fault memory.
