SUBJECT
FC 96CA: Passenger Thorax Airbag Resistance too Great

MODEL
E60 (5 Series) From start of series production to January 2004

SITUATION
Airbag warning lamp lights up (red) + CC message in the Central Information Display (CID) "Passenger airbag malfunctioned"

"FC 96CA resistance of firing circuit for passenger thorax airbag too great" appears in the fault code memory.

CAUSE
The connector on the thorax airbag module in the door is not connected properly.

PROCEDURE
Check the connection on the thorax airbag module in the door and repair it if necessary. From approximately January 2004, an improved connector will be installed.
