Noise from Sunroof When Lowering from the Vent Position
MODEL
E60 (5 Series)
SITUATION
The customer may complain of a popping noise when closing the sunroof from the vent position.
CAUSE
Rear edge of the sunroof glass is colliding with the front edge of the water drain.
CORRECTION
File down the front edge of the water drain.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the sunroof glass per Repair Instructions RA 54 12 115.
2. Apply a piece of masking tape (1) along the front edge of the water drain (2), 2 mm below the top edge.
Note:
The tape should be approximately 800 mm in length and should be 25 mm (dimension A) from the end piece (3) on both sides of the water drain.
3. Using a file (4) shorten the front edge of the water drain (2) down to the piece of tape (1).
Note:
Be careful not to cause any damage to the roof of the vehicle or the sunroof seal.
4. Smooth down the front edge of the water drain (2) with fine sandpaper.
5. Remove the masking tape from the water drain.
6. Remove the plastic splinters and dust produced from filing.
7. Grease the front edge of the water drain using Wurth Glide Grease, Article # 0893898.
8. Reinstall and adjust the sunroof glass per Repair Instructions RA 54 12 1 15.
9. Tighten the bolts to 5 Nm.
10. Refit the left and right side rubber gaiters.
11. Close the sunroof from vent position to ensure the noise has been is eliminated.
