SUBJECT
SBSL/SBSR FC 9845/98C5, implausible crash severity

MODEL
E60 (6 Series) Vehicles up to March 2004

SITUATION
Airbag warning lamp is illuminated in instrument cluster. Passive restraint fault displayed in Check Control on CID (Central Information Display)

Fault code 9845/98C5 "Implausible crash severity" is set in the SBSL/SBSR (Satellite sensor, B-pillar).

CAUSE
SW error in SBSL/SBSR

PROCEDURE
Reprogram vehicle using CIP 11.0 or later. Refer to SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Programming and Individualization), Procedure B.

If fault returns, replace SBSL/SBSR (as appropriate) and create a Puma case giving as much information as possible. Be sure to include the fault code in the "Fault Code" box.
