SUBJECT
AWL Illuminated, with Wiring Faults for Active Head Restraint

MODEL
E65, E66 (7 Series), E60 (5 Series) with Active Head Restraints. Vehicles produced to 3/2005.

SITUATION
The AWL (Airbag Warning Lamp) is illuminated and various fault codes relating to the wiring to the active head restraint are stored:

E65, E66 SSFA (Driver Seat Satellite): 9752, 9753, 9754, 9755 or 9757

E65, E66 SSBF (Passenger Seat Satellite): 97D2, 97D3, 97D4, 97D5 or 97D7

NEW E60 SBSL (B-Pillar Satellite Sensor - Left): 9847, 9848, 9852, 9853, 9854, 9855 or 9857

E60 SBSR (B-Pillar Satellite Sensor - Right): 98D2, 98D3, 98D4, 98D5 or 98D7

CAUSE
The seat wiring harness is damaged.

CORRECTION
Replace the seat wiring harness and observe the following important instructions to prevent damage to the replacement harness:





INCORRECT INSTALLATION:
This diagram shows the wire frame at the top left of the back of the driver's seat. The sharp points at the wire ends may damage the harness.





Using a pair of suitable pliers, bend the wire ends as shown to avoid harness damage.





Using plastic wire ties, route the replacement harness (1) down the seat back, spacing it 20 mm (A) from the edge of the wire frame.
