Removing and Installing Automatic Transmission (6HP19Z)

Special tools required:
^ 00 2 030
^ 24 1 110

Important:
After completion of work, check transmission oil level.
Use only the approved transmission fluid.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!

Necessary preliminary tasks.
^ Disconnect battery.
^ Remove underbody protection at front and rear.
^ Remove reinforcement plate. Important notes on installation are described in this work step.
^ Remove complete exhaust system.





Remove heat shields (1) and (2).





Grip clamping sleeve (1).
Slacken nut (2).
Detach retainer (3) towards bottom using a screwdriver.
Pull cable (4) out of holder.
Installation. Adjust selector lever

Supporting transmission:
Support with special tools 24 5 306, 24 5 301 and 00 2 030.
Set up special tool 24 5 306'.
- All supports to "A".





Supports 3 and 4 are at rear of transmission.
Support lettering points forwards.





Release screws (1) and nuts (2).
Remove transmission cross-member.

2AZ Rubber mounts to cross member or transmission All 21 Nm.

Remove propeller shaft from transmission.
Release center bearing.
Tie propeller shaft to one side.
Tasks are described in Removing propeller shaft.





^ Unlock and disconnect plug (1) by turning.
^ Release cable from retainers.
^ Insert special tool 24 2 390 in sealing sleeve.
These tasks are described in Notes on mechatronics.
( Important: Observe important note)





Unscrew bolt (1).
Disconnect hydraulic lines (2) to transmission fluid cooler.

Installation: Replace sealing rings.





Release screw (1).

Note: Illustration shows E60 manual transmission.





Crank engine at vibration damper in direction of rotation until screw is visible in opening.
Release all screws of torque converter with special tool 24 1 110.
Crank engine further and release remaining 2 screws.

A4S 270R / A4S 310R / A5S 310Z A5S 300J A5S 440Z A5S 560Z A5S 325Z A4S 200R GA6HP26Z/GA6HP19Z M10 45 Nm
All others M10 49 Nm
A5S360/390R M10 45 Nm
A5S360/390R M10 10.9 56 Nm





Prepare special tool (1) 24 4 161 with shaped piece (2) 24 4 164.
Shaped piece (3) 24 4 163 is not required.





Insert special tool 24 4 160 into opening of transmission housing and clamp gently with screw (1).
Twist in screw (2) and clamp down.
Then tighten down screw (1).





Unfasten screws.

Torx bolts All M12 72 Nm
Torx bolts GA6HP19Z M6 9 Nm
Torx bolts GA6HP19Z M8 22 Nm
Torx bolts GA6HP19Z M12 73 Nm





Installation: Bore (1) in driving disk must be accessible from opening on engine oil pan.





Check that dowel sleeves are correctly seated.
Replace damaged dowel sleeves.

Installation:
Rotate torque converter until bore in torque converter is flush with bore in driving disk.
Flange automatic transmission to engine.
