33 32 071 Replacing one upper control arm

Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Touring only: Deactivate air suspension system and reduce pressure
^ Remove rear wheel.

After installation:
^ Touring only: Carry out start-up for air suspension system





Shown on vehicle at rear right:
Unclip line for pulse generator (1) from holder (2).
Only on right side: Unclip line for brake pad sensor (3) from holder (2).





Release nut (1); if necessary, grip at hexagon head.
Remove control arm at top from wheel carrier.

Installation:
Tightening Torque: Upper Control arm to wheel carrier 165 Nm
Replace self-locking nut.
Keep tapered pin and bore free from grease.





Unscrew nut (1).
Pull out screw (2).
Remove control arm at top.

Installation:
Tightening torque: Upper control arm to rear axle carrier 100 Nm
(tighten in empty weight or normal position)
Replace self-locking nut.
Watch insertion direction of bolt (2): Bolt head points in direction of travel.

Replacement only:
Unclip holder on control arm.



33 32 064 Removing and installing or replacing left or right swinging arm (Lower)

Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Touring only: Deactivate air suspension system and reduce pressure
^ Remove rear wheel.
^ If necessary, remove control rod for ride-height sensor from swinging arm
^ Remove stabilizer link from swinging arm
^ Touring only: Remove rear shock absorber from swinging arm

After installation:
^ Check that output shaft is correctly seated in rear differential.
^ Touring only: Carry out start-up for air suspension system
^ Perform chassis alignment check





Mark position of eccentric bolt to rear axle carrier with colored points; this simplifies subsequent camber adjustment.





Unscrew nut (1).
Remove eccentric disk.
Unscrew and remove eccentric bolt.

Installation:
Tightening torque; Swinging arm to rear axle support 100 Nm
Replace self-locking nut.
Install eccentric disk (2).
Note insertion direction of eccentric bolt.
Bolt head points in direction of travel.





Unfasten nut.
Pull out screw.

Installation:
Tightening torque; Swinging arm to rear axle support 100 Nm
Replace self-locking nut.
Watch insertion direction of bolt: Bolt head points in opposite direction to direction of travel.





Support wheel carrier with workshop jack.
Unfasten nut.
Pull out screw.
Remove swinging arm towards bottom.

Installation:
Tightening torque; Screw connection, swinging arm, integral link,
Wheel carrier 240 Nm
(tighten in empty weight or normal position)
Replace self-locking nut.
Watch insertion direction of bolt: Bolt head points in opposite direction to direction of travel.
