Removing and Installing Engine
11 00 050 - Removing and installing engine (N62)
Special tools required:
- 11 0 020 11 0 020 Engine Hoist for Removing and Installing Engines
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect battery negative lead. (Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery) Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery.
- Lift engine hood Procedures into assembly position.
- Remove radiator design cover.
- Remove air cleaner housing Service and Repair.
- Remove tension strut Service and Repair.
- Remove fresh air duct Service and Repair.
- Detach steering spindle from steering gear.
- Release engine wiring harness Replacing Wiring Harness Section for Engine from electronics box.
- Drain coolant.
- Remove coolant expansion tank.
- Remove radiator.
- Remove A/C compressor drive belt Replacing A/C Compressor Drive Belt.
- Remove alternator drive belt Replacing Alternator Drive Belt.
- Disconnect fuel line.
- Remove front/middle underbody protection.
- Remove reinforcement plate.
- Remove all lambda oxygen sensors.
- Remove exhaust system Service and Repair.
- Remove transmission.
Note:
Do not detach oil lines from automatic transmission to heat exchanger at oil sump.
Important!
Risk of damage to oil lines on steering gear.
Secure starter motor (1) with transmission screw (2) against falling out.
Detach oil line (1) at screw connection (2).
Set oil line (1) down in engine compartment at front and secure against falling out.
Release power steering pump (1).
Secure against falling out by applying a cable tie (2) to stabilizer bar (3).
Release A/C compressor Removing and Installing Transmission (GS6-53BZ) (1).
Note:
Secure all connecting leads with cable ties (3) against falling down.
Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).
Unlock heater hose (2) and detach in direction of arrow.
Installation:
Plug-in connections of coolant hoses are correctly fitted when they snap into place with a clearly audible click.
Unlock coolant hose (1) on auxiliary water pump and detach in direction of arrow.
Remove auxiliary water pump.
Unlock hose (1) and detach from secondary air pump.
Secure automatic transmission heat exchanger (2) with cable tie (3) against falling down.
Note:
Engine removed for purposes of clarity.
Secure engine wiring harness (2) with cable tie (3) on suction bridge against falling out.
Mount special tool 11 0 020 11 0 020 Engine Hoist for Removing and Installing Engines on engine.
Release nut (1) on left and right engine brackets.
Unfasten ground strap (2).
Remove engine.
Assemble engine.
Vent cooling system and check for leaks.
Installation:
Risk of damage to automatic fluid lines and servo fluid lines.
