SUBJECT
Poor Temperature Regulation from Center Vents

MODEL
E64 (6 Series) vehicles produced up to February 25, 2005

SITUATION
The customer complains that the temperature coming from the center vents is too cool when full heat is requested.

CAUSE
IHKA (Automatic Climate Control) design

PROCEDURE

1. The contents of this service information bulletin have been migrated into DIS V52 or later. Please refer to SI B64 04 07 for information on how to access "Symptom Troubleshooting" for heating and air conditioning complaints.

2. Select the symptom "640004 No/Insufficient heat output".

3. Select the test plan "Fault profile 10: IHKA integrated automatic heating/air conditioning W6450_WAS8".

4. Follow instructions in the test plan to correct the customer complaint.

[NEW] INFORMATION

The following is additional information to assist the customer on maximizing the temperature regulation from the center vents.





1. Move the convertible top to the full open position.

2. Move the controller to the left to select "Climate".





3. Select "Automatic programs".

4. Rotate the controller and check the box for "high" and "convertible program".

5. This will ensure the highest efficiency from the heating and air conditioning system when the convertible top is open.

6. From the menu bar at the top, select "Vent settings".





7. Move the controller and highlight the box with the "+" and "-".

8. Rotate the controller to adjust for more heat (from 1 to 4 red bars). Max Heat = 4 red bars and the Temp Control wheels set to the warmest temperature settings.

9. This will raise the maximum outlet temperature from 122°F to 150°F.
