SUBJECT
CPT9000 (V60) Handset not Recognized
MODEL
E65, E66 (7 Series) up to 3/05 Production
SITUATION
The customer may complain of any of the following:
^ When inserting the handset into the eject box, the telephone display does not switch to "Portable Phone".
^ When making a hands-free telephone call, a loud squeal or fax tone is heard from the speakers.
^ When inserting the handset into the eject box, the Control Display constantly displays "Reading data".
CAUSE
1. Incorrect spacer installed.
2. Handset connector port damaged.
3. Poor contact at eject box.
4. Vehicle coding
PROCEDURE
1. Identify the type of phone (V60s or V60i).
2. The V60s (1) handset is identified by its thicker body along with an additional button on the top for speakerphone. On the side of the body are grilles for the internal speakerphone. The illustration shows the V60s (1) with the extended life battery.
3. The V60i (2) handset is identified by its thinner body and no speakerphone button on the top. The illustration shows the V60i (2) handset with the standard battery.
4. Check that the proper spacer is installed in the eject box.
V60s Handset with later eject box (no flocking) only.
^ Thick Battery = no spacer
^ Thin Battery = extra thin spacer
V60i Handset with early or late eject box.
^ Thick Battery = thin spacer
^ Thin Battery = thick spacer
5. [NEW] Inspect the connection port at the bottom of the handset for damage. If the handset has been damaged, it will need to be replaced.
6. [NEW] Inspect the contacts for any signs of glue (discoloring). Replace the handset if any signs of glue are present.
7. [NEW] Inspect the connector inside the eject box for damage. If the connector is damaged replace the eject box with the later style eject box (no flocking).
8. [NEW] Inspect the eject box connector for any signs of glue and replace as needed. If glue was found on the handset then it should also be found on the eject box.
9. [NEW] Eject box gluing process was optimized starting with 12/17/04 date code. This date code can be read from the information label on the side of the eject box electronics.
10. If the above measures do not repair the vehicle please create a PuMA case and send to the Electrical Group Hotline.
