SUBJECT
ARS System Pressure Test

MODEL
E65/E66 (7 Series)

SITUATION
The power steering pump of the E65/E66 is a tandem style pump. The pump supplies the operating pressure for the power steering system and the Active Roll Stabilization (ARS) system.

The operating pressure of the power steering system can be checked following the procedure listed in Repair Instructions 32 41 009.

Due to the high operating pressure of the ARS system, 200 bar maximum, it is not recommended to test the ARS system with the conventional gauge used in the power steering pressure tester. The following is the only procedure approved for checking the ARS system pressure.

PROCEDURE

1. Connect the DISplus or GT-1 and perform a Short Test.

2. After the Short Test is finished, select the Control Module Functions button.

3. From the Control Units column, select ARS Dynamic Drive.

4. From the Functions column, select Status values, sensors.

5. From the Part functions column, select Pressure, front axle and Pressure, rear axle.

6. Press the display button. The front and rear axle pressures are displayed.

7. Press the function selection button.

8. Select Service Functions/Chassis/Dynamic Drive in the Operations column.

9. Select Startup from the center column and Start startup from the right column.

10. Select Test Plan and follow the test module.

11. During the test module you will be asked "Do you wish to start the startup procedure now?" Select Yes and the right arrow.

12. Immediately after pressing the right arrow, select the Control Module Functions button at the bottom of the screen.

13. The system pressures will fluctuate during the test. System pressure should reach a minimum of 150 bar.
