SUBJECT
Trunk Opening Function Via Remote Control is Inoperative

MODEL
E65/66 (7 Series) without Option 322 (Comfort Access), from October 2001 up to March 2005.

E65/66 (7 Series) with Option 322 (Comfort Access), from March 2003 up to March 2005.

SITUATION
After Sleep Mode, the trunk can't be opened with the remote control.

The trunk can only be opened via the interior or exterior button.

All other remote control functions are working correctly.

After locking and unlocking the vehicle, the trunk release function via the remote control is restored.

CAUSE

Signal from the remote control is not recognized correctly by the CAS (Car Access System).

CORRECTION

In case of a customer complaint:

1. Allow vehicle to enter Sleep Mode (>16 minutes, CAS backlight has to be off).

2. Press the trunk unlock button on the remote key and confirm the customer complaint.

3. Check other remote control functions (convenience opening, door lock/unlock).

NOTE:
If other remote control functions do not work correctly, continue troubleshooting!

4. If the customer complaint is verified and there are no other issues with the remote control functions, replace the CAS with an improved part.

Refer to SI B090501 (Coding, Individualization and Programming) "Procedure A", for any necessary coding and programming.

Note that CIP will automatically reprogram all programmable control units that do not have the latest software.
