SUBJECT
Chassis Integrated Module (CIM) Fault Code D98F "Timeout DME Message"

MODEL
E65/66 (7 Series) produced up to 3/05

SITUATION

Servotronic failure warning is displayed in the Control Display and the steering effort may increase. The steering functions return to normal after restarting the engine.

CAUSE

Car Access System (CAS) data redundancy reading error.

CORRECTION

Depending on production date of the vehicle, CAS needs to be replaced (up to 2/03 production) or vehicle needs to be programmed (from 3/03 production).

PROCEDURE

1. In case of a customer complaint, for vehicles produced up to 2/03 (equipped with CIM): Replace the CAS (Part Number: 61 31 6 942 487). Please refer to Parts Bulletin 00 03 04 (5/04) for the procedure to order CAS.

2. In case of a customer complaint, for vehicles produced from 3/03 (equipped with CIM2): Program the vehicle with CIP 15.2 or higher.

PRODUCTION

Improved CAS is introduced in 3/05.
