SUBJECT
CPT9000 Handset does not Power on When the Ignition is Cycled on
MODEL
E65/66 (7 Series) from 9/02 to 2/05 production
SITUATION
After programming the vehicle with Progman V21.02.00 or [NEW] V22.x, the BMW CPT9000 handset [NEW] or Bluetooth Upgrade Module (BTUM) does not automatically power on. The problem only occurs when the handset is left in the cradle and the vehicle has assumed sleep mode (approximately one hour).
Note:
Motorola V60 handsets without BMW software programmed in the handset will not support the power on feature.
CAUSE
Software error in the TCU.
PROCEDURE
[NEW] For all vehicles, on a customer complaint basis only, refer to the following procedure:
[NEW] Update the complete vehicle per SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization, Programming) Procedure B using Progman V23.00.00 (Target Data Status E065-06-09-800) or higher. This software in expected in October 2006.
Interim customer work around procedure for CPT9000 systems: Explain to the customer that BMW of North America, LLC is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. In the interim, ask the customer to do one of the following:
^ Remove the handset from the cradle when exiting the vehicle.
^ Upon entering the vehicle, remove the handset from the cradle and press the power on button on the handset and reinstall the handset into the cradle.
[NEW] Interim customer work around procedure for vehicles equipped with the BTUM adapter:
Explain to the customer that BMW of North America, LLC is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. In the interim, ask the customer to do one of the following:
^ Upon entering the vehicle, remove the BTUM adapter from the cradle and reinstall the adapter into the cradle.
