SUBJECT
Rear Door Panel Cover Peeling

MODEL
E65, E66 (7 Series) equipped with Power Rear Sunshades (option code 416)

SITUATION
The customer may claim that the covering material on the top of the door panel is separating from the back side of the panel. Once the material begins to separate for the door panel, each operation of the sunshades will further pull the material away from the door panel.

CAUSE
This separation is caused by inadequate adhesion of the door panel covering to the door panel.

CORRECTION
The separated material can be permanently secured to the door panel using the specified adhesive.

PROCEDURE
1. Identify the location of the separating material
1. on one or both of the rear doors.

2. Remove the door trim panel per repair instruction RA 51 42 000.
3. Pull gently on the separated material to separate it further in any loose areas, to prevent future occurrences.

4. Brush a small amount of adhesive (P/N 81 22 407 524) on to the separated material (1), as well as to the area of the door panel which it separated from (2).
5. Allow the adhesive to dry slightly and become tacky (approximately 2-4 minutes).
6. Press the separated material onto the door panel and ensure that it adheres properly.
