Important!
- Use only approved rear differential oils!
- After the running-in phase of 2000 km, it is essential to carry out a rear differential oil change.
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Remove propeller shaft on final drive, please refer to:
- Remove output shaft from rear differential at both ends and tie back, please refer to:
- Remove rear stabilizer, please refer to: Service and Repair
Mount adapters -33 4 426- on special tool -33 4 420-.
Warning!
Danger of injury!
Failure to comply with the following instructions may result in the vehicle slipping off the lifting platform and critically injuring other persons.
When supporting components, make sure that:
- the vehicle can no longer be raised or lowered
- the vehicle does not lift off the locating plates on the lifting platform

To prevent the rear differential from falling down, check and if necessary correct the positioning of the side bearing caps on adapters -33 4 426-.
Support rear differential with special tool -33 4 420- and adapters -33 4 426- on side bearing caps.
Unfasten screws.
Release screw (1).
Slowly lower workshop jack and remove rear differential towards rear.
Important!
Adhere to the following installation sequence in order to prevent distortion of the rear differential durring installation and thereby avoid potential complaints about noise.
Installation sequence:
1. Install rear differential with workshop jack and special tool -33 4 420- and adapters -33 4 426-.
2. Secure propeller shaft with three bolts to rear differential.
3. Insert bolt (2) (do not tighten down)
4. Insert bolts (1) (do not tighten down)
5. Lower workshop jack and place to one side
6. Tighten screw (2)
7. Tighten screws (1)
After Installation:
- Replacement only: Add rear differential oil
- Check rear differential oil level, correct if necessary.
