Special tools required:
- 52 0 050 52 0 050 Pliers
BMW diagnosis system:
- Perform software update
- Clear fault memory if necessary
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove cover (normal/electric) or
outer actuating unit
- Remove backrest frame.
Warning!
To avoid damaging the OC3 mat, it is essential to carry out the following operations with extra care.
- Do not kink OC3 mat.
- Handle OC3 mat with extreme care.
Note:
The following work steps of the overhaul solution for the OC3 mat relate to the entrance side from the front passenger seat.
Release screw (1) on inside and outside.
Unclip catches (3) towards bottom and pull trim (2) forward a little.
Seat with electric actuating unit only:
Release screws (1).
Pull trim (2) out a little and release screw (3).
Release clip (5) from carrier (4).
Remove trim (2) and carrier (4).
Detach seat cover (1) from seat frame (2).
Pull out cover welt (1) from seat frame (2).
Version with seat heating:
If necessary, lever catch (1) towards top and remove cover (2).
Version with seat heating:
Disconnect plug connection (1) from seat heating.
Disconnect plug connection (1) from seat occupancy detector.
Remove padding (1) in upward direction from seat frame (2).
Important!
Carefully feed out cable through seat frame (2).
Installation:
The padding is coated with wax to prevent grinding noises.
Do not remove wax (1) on padding (2).
Disconnect retainers (1) from padding (2) in opening on entry side.
Important!
Remove all remnants of retainers from cover and padding (2).
Installation:
Bend new retainers (1) closed with special tool 52 0 050 52 0 050 Pliers.
Important!
Padding must not be damaged.
Fold back seat cover (1) at side.
Carefully detach OC3 mat (2) from side section of padding. If necessary, cut off OC3 mat (2) with a heavy-duty scalpel without damaging the padding.
Important!
Do not damage strip conductors of OC3 mat.
Carefully cut off protruding material (1) of OC3 mat above contour (2).
Fold back OC3 mat (1).
Stick double-sided adhesive tape (2) to padding (3).
Pull protective film off double-side adhesive tape (2).
Pulling gently, stick OC3 mat (1) to side section.
Stick fleece (1) in area of OC3 mat to side section.
Note:
Stick fleece (1) to side section edge (2) so that it is flush.
Assemble front seat.
Enabling seat occupancy detector (OC3 mat):
- Connect BMW diagnosis system
- Release seat occupancy detector
- Clear fault memory if necessary
