Replacing A/C System Compressor (M54/M57)

Special tools required:
- 32 1 270 32 1 270 Plugs (Set)





Warning!
Risk of injury!

Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!

Follow safety instructions for handling R 134a refrigerant.

Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.

Important!
Risk of damage!

Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.

Read and comply with notes Instructions for Compressor Replacement on replacing compressor.

Follow instructions Removal and Replacement for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.

If A/C system is opened for more than 24 hours:

Replace desiccant insert for A/C system Removing and Installing/Replacing Dryer Bottle for Air Conditioner





Necessary preliminary tasks:
All:

- Drawing off, evacuating and filling the A/C system Drawing off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a) are not included in the time value given for this work operation
- Remove front underbody protection Removing and Installing/Replacing Front Underbody Protection
Only M57:

- Remove pressure pipe
M54 only:

- Release coolant expansion tank, disconnect plug connection and place coolant expansion tank to one side





Version with Dynamic Drive:

Do not release pressure lines on active stabilizer.

Press lock (1) on distributor (2) and detach vent line (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Make sure vent line (3) is correctly seated in distributor (2).

Lower stabilizer on front axle. Removing and Installing/Replacing Front Stabilizer





Version with Dynamic Drive:

Release nuts (1) and (2).

Remove retaining fixture (3).

Installation Note:
Make sure retaining fixture (3) is correctly seated.





All:

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Release screws (2).

Detach refrigerant lines (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ [1][2]Compressor HVAC.

Replace all sealing rings and moisten with refrigerant oil.





Important!
Seal openings or lines on compressor with special tool 32 1 270 32 1 270 Plugs (Set) to prevent escape of media and fouling.





All:

Note:
Secure A/C compressor (2) against falling out.

Release bolts (1).

Feed out A/C compressor (2) in direction of arrow.





After installation:

- Evacuate and fill A/C system Drawing off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a)
