SUBJECT
Xenon Headlight Intermittently or Permanently Inoperative

MODEL
E53 (X5) with SA 524 (Adaptive Headlights) produced up to 6/15/06

SITUATION
One of the Xenon headlights may be intermittently or permanently inoperative. The problem may be more prevalent when the vehicle is turning.

CAUSE
The wiring inside the headlight assembly may have been pinched or chafed.

PROCEDURE

1. Try to duplicate the customer's complaint.

2. Perform a short test using the DIS or GT1.

3. Work though any corresponding test modules in the Lamp Control Module (LCM) or Adaptive Headlight module (AHL).

4. Remove the access cover from the rear of the headlight.





5. Thoroughly inspect the wiring inside the headlight assembly.
- On the access cover
- Near the reflector

6. If the wiring is found to be damaged, replace the defective headlight assembly.

7. Refer to RA 63 12 013 for instructions on how to replace the headlight assembly.
