Alarm System - Fault Code 149 Stored in ZKE3 Module

SUBJECT
FC 149 in ZKE3 without Alarm Activation

MODEL
E53 (X5) vehicles produced up to 3/31/05 with option 302 (anti-theft alarm system)

SITUATION
The following fault code is stored in the ZKE3 (General Module) fault code memory: FC149 (95h) - "Interior security - fuse or cable".

No false alarm has been triggered. The customer may have realized that the interior motion detector could not be armed.

CAUSE
ZKE3 software

PROCEDURE
Check the cable between the ZKE and the ultrasonic module (USIS module) for the interior motion sensor. If no problems can be found, clear the fault code memory - there is no fault in the system. Do not replace any parts.

The fault code memory entry only indicates that the USIS module could not be armed for ONE cycle. When this occurs, the LED on the interior mirror flashes when the vehicle is locked. The function is restored the next time the vehicle is locked.
