SUBJECT
Rattling or Clinking Noise from Center Vents when Vehicle is Moving

MODEL
E53 (X5)

SITUATION
The customer may state that there is a rattling or clinking noise from the center vents when the vehicle is moving. The noise is no longer present when the center vents are closed. The problem mostly occurs under acceleration.

CAUSE
The driver's side evaporator drain hose of the air conditioning system stops above the driveshaft and is open at the end. Noises from the drive train can therefore be transmitted up into the interior and heard through the center vents.

PROCEDURE
In the event of a customer complaint, install a valve at the end of the evaporator drain hoses.
