SITUATION

When the rear view mirror reaches very high temperatures, such as when the vehicle is parked for an extended period of time in direct sunlight in hot climates, the compass becomes very dim and difficult to read.

CAUSE

The rear view mirror temperature protection feature is active.

Above 130°F (55°C), the compass display dims to 50% of its maximum value.

Above 160°F (70°C), the compass display dims to 5% of its maximum value.

PROCEDURE

Do not replace any parts.

This is a normal function of the compass and as soon as the mirror cools to below the above-mentioned threshold, normal viewing of the compass will resume.
