BMW Assist(R) - Calls Cannot be Completed

Subject
BMW Assist Calls are Inoperative

Complaint
BMW Assist call cannot be completed.

Vehicles Concerned: E46 from 9/2003, E53 from 10/03 with BMW Assist

Cause
A TCU coding software error, or during TCU installation, Retrofit" was selected instead of "Coding".

Measure
If the SOS LED illuminates for 2 seconds when the ignition cycled on, perform the procedure below:

1. Recode Telematics Control Unit (TCU).

2. Perform Battery reset.

3. Clear fault memory of all control units.

4. Check the functionality of the system.

If the SOS LED does NOT illuminate for 2 seconds when the ignition cycled on, perform the procedure below:

1. Readout the vehicle order (VO) stored in the KOMBI.

2. If "TELD" and "TEPR" are stored as "HO-Wort" they must be deleted. Refer to SI B09 03 01 for instructions on how to delete a feature by editing the vehicle order.

3. Recode Telematics Control Unit (TCU).

4. Perform battery reset.

5. Clear fault memory of all control units.

6. Check the functionality of the system.
