M62TU Crankcase Vent Tube Leaking or Collapsing

Model
E53 (X5) vehicles equipped with M62TU 4.4i or 4.6iS engines.

Complaint

The customer complains that the check engine lamp is illuminated vehicle runs rough and/or a noise can be heard from the engine compartment area.

Cause

The crankcase hose located between the crankcase vent valve and vapor separator has collapsed or deteriorated causing a vacuum leak. If the hose detenorates the vehicle stores mixture adaptation faults in the DME resulting in the check engine lamp also being illuminated.

Measure

A new hose utilizing a CM/FPM material is now used for all replacement stock in the Parts Distribution Centers. Replace the hose with PN 11 15 1 705 257 from EPC.
