Adjusting Front Axle (With Kds) (Toe-In and Camber)

Special tools required:
^ 32 3 140
^ 32 3 144
^ 32 3 145

After installation: Carry out steering angle sensor offset, refer to BMW diagnosis program.

Adjusting camber:
A camber change always involves a toe-in change as well, therefore the camber must be adjusted first.
Changes in axle geometry caused by accidents must under no circumstances be rectified by camber adjustment.





If necessary, unscrew centering pin (1) -> no longer required.
Remove dirt in area of support bearing in wheel arch from below with compressed air.
Slacken nuts (2) approximately 1 1/2 turns.
Remove nut (3).





Fit special tool 32 3 140 comprising special tools 32 3 144 and 32 3 145 in wheel arch opening and over stay bolt (3).
Adjust camber by turning nut to specified value.
Then replace nuts (2) and tighten down.
Tightening torques 31 31 lAZ.





Remove special tool.
Replace nut (3) and tighten down.
Tightening torque, 31 31 lAZ.





Adjusting toe-in/toe-differential angle:
Move wheels and steering gear to straight-ahead position.
Markings on cap (1) and on housing (2) must match up.





Slacken clamping nut (1) on tie rod.
Adjust wheel toe-in to specified value by turning tie rod at hexagon head (2).
Installation:
Make sure steering sleeve is not twisted.
Tightening torque, 32 21 5AZ.
