Replacing Final Drive

33 10 010 Removing and installing or replacing final drive

Special tools required:
^ 33 4 410

Recycling: Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove left and right tension struts.
^ Remove compression strut.
^ Unflange propeller shaft from final drive.
^ Remove rear stabilizer bar.
^ If necessary] drain differential oil.
After installation:
^ Check gear oil level.
^ Oil filling quantities.

Important:
Use only approved gear oil in this final drive.
Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the final drive.





Remove left and right output shafts and tie up.
Tightening torque:
Output shaft to final drive unit and drive flange.
Fillister head (M10) 83 Nm.
With locking teeth (M10)replace with new = 96 Nm.
M12 110 Nm.
torx bolt (M10) 83 Nm.

Color Black.
With ribbed M10 100 Nm.
M8 64 Nm.

Color Silver.
With ribbed teeth (replace screws) M10 80 Nm.
M8 52 Nm.
With ribbed teeth M12 135 Nm.


Installation:
Before installing output shaft, make sure that flange is fully engaged in final drive.
Use washers (1).





Support final drive with transmission lifter and special tool 33 4 410.
Make sure there is clearance between special tool 33 4 410 and dust sleeve (1).
If the dust protection sleeve (1) is damaged or bent, it may come into contact with the flange -> noise!





Important: Comply with following installation sequence in order to prevent torsion stress on final drive during installation and thus avoid complaints about noise:

^ Install final drive with lifter.
^ Install retaining screws (do not tighten down).
^ Remove lifter. Tightening sequence of screws:
1. Tighten front screws first.
2. Tighten rear screw.





Unfasten screws.
Installation:
Install screw, do not tighten down.
Observe installation sequence!


Unfasten nut and remove screw.
Slowly lower lifter and tilt out final drive towards rear.
Installation:
Install screw and nut, do not tighten down.
Observe installation sequence!
Tightening torque: Front 100 Nm.
Tightening torque: Rear 165 Nm.
