Replacing Clutch Release Lever

21 51 500 Removing And Installing Or Replacing Clutch Release - Lever

(Transmission removed)





Remove release bearing (1).

Installation:
Clean all sliding surfaces on release bearing. Sliding surfaces (2) of release bearing must rest on sliding surfaces (3) of release lever.





Pull release lever (4) out of spring clip (5) and remove.

Installation:





Clean clutch-release lever and carefully apply a thin coat of grease to the sliding surfaces. Grease type: Esso UNIREX S2 (BMW Part # 83 23 9 416 138) available in 40 g tube.

Installation:





Check spring clip (5) and ball stud (6) for damage and replace if necessary.

Note: The spring clip and ball stud must always be replaced on transmission S6S 420G (Getrag D-Transmission (226/6) non-SMG).





Clean guide sleeve (7).

Caution: Do not grease guide sleeve. If guide sleeve is greased, the release lever can stick on the guide sleeve.
