Checking Thickness of Brake Lining



Note:
The thickness of the outer brake linings can be determined without removing the wheels.
If necessary, move car until opening for brake lining wear indicator (brake lining) can be seen through rim styling.

E38: This check can be carried out from model year 97.
E52: This check is only possible on the rear brakes. To check front brake linings: remove both front wheels.





Insert special tool 341260 through rim into opening for brake lining wear indicator.
Press special tool onto brake lining. Slide ring (1) in direction of arrow as far as it will go and read off measured value.

Residual lining thickness of front wheel brake:
Refer to specifications.
Residual lining thickness of rear wheel brake: Refer to specifications.





Note: The thickness of the outer brake linings can be determined without removing the wheels.

If necessary, move the vehicle until the aperture for the brake lining wear indicator (brake lining) is visible through the rim styling.

Insert special tool 34 1 260 through the rim and into recess for brake lining wear indicator.
Press special tool to brake lining, slide ring (1) in direction of arrow to limit position and read off measuring value.
