Replacing Complete Front Axle (With Spring Strut Shock Absorber)


Caution!
Perform front axle alignment check after assembly.

Remove engine underguard.
Remove left and right brake calipers, and tie back to body - lines remain connected.
Disconnect ABS pulse generator line.
Remove reinforcement (cross).
Remove reinforcement (plate).





Unscrew left and right nuts.
Force off steering tie rod on left and right with special tool 32 3 090.

Installation:
Remove grease from pin and bore.
Replace self-locking nut.
Tie rod end nut 36.5 ±3.5 Nm
Note: Tie rod end with split-pin hole must not be bolted with a self locking nut.





Unfasten screws.
Tie steering gear back.

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Steering gear to front axle carrier
M10 42 Nm





Remove link (1) on left and right of stabilizer bar (2)-grip with open-end wrench-and secure with adhesive tape to spring strut.

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Stabilizer Link to Stabilizer 65 Nm





Remove retaining bracket (1) of angle joint from control arm (2).





Remove control arm bracket from engine support on left and right.

Installation:
Control arm holder to engine carrier 59 Nm
Note: Replace screws.

Suspend engine in installation position with special tool.
According to the engine, the work is described in "Removing oil sump".
Unfasten left and right engine mounts from front axle support.

Warning!
No one is permitted to stand underneath the front axle! Risk of injury!
Release screws from side.






Lower car until rear wheels touch ground. Support front axle support in middle with workshop hoist.
Remove front axle support from engine support on left and right.

Installation:
First tighten down both rear bolts (1) (tapered connections).






Release only one nut if there is no centering pin (1).
Position of threaded pin to wheel arch must be marked exactly.
This ensures that the original camber is retained during installation.
Remove support bearing from wheel arch on left and right.

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
The centering pin (1) of the support bearing must lie in the bore (2) of the wheel arch, and the marking must be noted.
Spring strut mount to wheel house
Flanged hexagon nut 18 mm 24 Nm
Flanged hexagon nut 21 Nm 34 Nm


Caution!
Spring struts must not tilt or hang outwards-damage to ball joints and side walls.
Raise car; each spring strut must be held by a person here.
