CD Changer - Inoperative/Jammed or Broken

SUBJECT
CD Changer is Inoperative; Magazine is Jammed or Broken

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series)
E63, E64 (6 Series)

SITUATION
The CD Changer in the glove box is inoperative (not selectable in the Entertainment menu), and/or the magazine is jammed or broken (would not release).

CAUSE
The CD Changer is incorrectly mounted and this can cause distortion and jamming of the mechanism.

PROCEDURE
Check the CD Changer is not stressed in its installation location:
1. Loosen the two hex-bolts on the front of the CD Changer (left and right).
2. Check whether the CD Changer is difficult to remove or reinstall into the bracket. It should slide in and out without force.





3. If there is a screw (1) on the right side of the CD Changer bracket, remove the screw.

Note: This screw can cause stress and distortion.

4. Re-install the CD Changer and recheck that it is not stressed in its installation location.
5. Re-secure the CD changer to the edge of the trim in its installation position using the two hex-bolts.
6. If the magazine is jammed use special tool P/N 90 88 6 651 170 (CD Magazine Eject Tool) to remove the magazine and replace the CD magazine, refer to SI B04 14 05.
