Technical Service
This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.M. B61 208 04 dated July 2004.
SUBJECT
Rear Windows Close First, or Anti-trap Activates During Convenience Closing
MODEL
E64 (6 Series Convertible)
SITUATION
Depending on the vehicle integration level, there are (2) possible customer complaints:
1. The customer complains that when using "convenient closing" mode after programming with CIP12.2 or later, the rear windows close fully before the front windows start to close. Prior to programming, all (4) windows closed at the same time.
2. For vehicles with integration level prior to E060-04-06-500, the customer complains that when using the convertible top switch to activate "convenience closing" mode, the windows reverse direction when the windows are almost closed.
CAUSE
For complaint 1, this is normal operation. A change was introduced with CIP12.2 to correct the condition in complaint 2).
For complaint 2, when all (4) windows close at the same time, the rear windows reach "full up" position while the front windows are still moving. This causes extra resistance on the front windows. In some cases, this resistance is sufficient to cause anti-trap to activate
PROCEDURE
For complaint 1, explain to the customer that the change was introduced to avoid the possibility of the anti-trap activating.
For complaint 2, reprogram the vehicle using CIP12.2, or later. Explain to the customer that after programming, "convenience closing" will cause the rear windows to close before the front windows start to close.
