Removing and Installing Lower Timing Case Cover (N73)




11 14 110 - Removing and installing lower timing case cover (N73)





Special tools required:
- 23 1 040





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove engine Removing and Installing Engine.
- Remove left cylinder head Removing and Installing Left Cylinder Head (N73).
- Remove right cylinder head Removing and Installing Right Cylinder Head (N73).
- Remove lower oil sump Removing and Installing/Replacing Oil Sump Bottom Section (N73) section.
- Remove upper oil sump Removing and Installing/Replacing Oil Sump Top Section (N73) section.
- Remove water pump Service and Repair with thermostat.
- Remove vibration damper Removing and Installing/Replacing Vibration Damper (N73).
- Remove hub Removing and Installing/Replacing Vibration Damper Hub (N73) for vibration damper.
- Remove tensioning element Replacing Alternator Drive Belt for alternator drive belt.
- Remove alternator Service and Repair with housing.
- Remove flywheel Service and Repair.
- Remove rear coolant cap Service and Repair.





Release screws along lines (1).
Remove timing case cover (2) towards front.





Release screws (1) and remove coolant pipe (2).
Release screws along lines (3) and remove end cover (4) towards top.

Installation:
Replace all seals.

Tightening torque: 11 14 5AZ 11 14 or 15 Case Covers.





Drive out coolant pipe (1) with special tool 23 1 040 at cutout (2) towards front.

Installation:
Replace coolant pipe (1) and sealing ring (3).





Press in coolant pipe (1) by hand.

Installation:
Grease sealing rings with mounting lubricant.

Clean sealing faces (2).

Check adapter sleeves (3) for damage and correct installation position.

Installation:
Replace gaskets (4), observe installation position.





Assemble engine.
