SITUATION
The following condition occurs in the workshop, after the transmission has been replaced, or reinstalled:
- When P position is selected, transmission jumps back into N.
- Message "Transmission Range P Fault" is displayed in the cluster, and "Transmission Range P may be unavailable. Engage parking brake when vehicle is stationary" is displayed in the CC.

CAUSE

NOTE:
Replacing emergency park release lever due to the previous, incorrect transmission installation is not covered under the BMW New Vehicle Warranty.

PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT:
When removing/replacing a ZF
6HP19/26 transmission, it is
recommended to use a special
transmission support fixture PN 83 30 0
494 062 (available from BMW PDCs).

Check for free emergency park release lever movement.
The release cable (2) should not touch the lever (1) at any time.

If the release cable (2) is binding on a side, the release brake lever (1) is bent and should be replaced along with the self-locking M8 nut:
Lever: PN 24 14 7 519 414
M8 nut: PN 24 14 7 515 901
Tightening torque for the M8 nut is 10 Nm.

Adjust the emergency park release cable free-play to 1-2 mm.
