SUBJECT
Air Flows from Center Vents when Floor Vents are Manually Selected

MODEL
E90 (3 Series)

SITUATION

The customer states one or more of the following:

1. When manual floor vent setting is selected, air flows from the center vents.

2. No heat output from the center console rear vents.

CAUSE
Flap motor calibration error

PROCEDURE

1. Perform a short test using DIS/GT1, and correct any IHKA (Automatic Heating and Air Conditioning) faults that may be present.

2. Select Control Module Functions/IHKA/Component Activation/-Flap motors/Flap motors, start reference run. Select "Activate" and the reference run is started. During this reference run the only indication you have, is that the blower speed will drop off. This process will take 40-90 seconds.
Once the blower speed returns back to normal, the reference run is complete (note: there is no indication on the DIS/GT1).

3. Turn the vehicle off and allow the vehicle to enter sleep mode for 5 minutes. This enables the IHKA to perform a calibration run of the flap motors upon startup.

4. Restart the vehicle and check vent operation.

5. If the vent operation is still not correct, recode the IHKA using the latest version of CIP as per SI B09 05 01 Programming and Coding using CIP (Procedure E).

6. Turn the vehicle off and allow the vehicle to enter sleep mode for 5 minutes.

7. Restart the vehicle and check vent operation.

8. If the vent operation is still not correct replace IHKA control panel.
