A/C - Blows Warm Air Only From Defroster vents/Codes Set

SUBJECT
Air Conditioning System Only Directs Hot Air to Defrost Vents

MODEL
E90, E91 (3 Series)

SITUATION
The customer complains that with the air conditioning system on, only hot air blows from the defrost vents. The customer is not able to control the system. One or all of the following faults may be stored in the IHKA (Independent Heating and Air Conditioning).
- 9C48 - Mixing flap motor, left - Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus
- 9C49 - Mixing flap motor, right - Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus
- 9C50 - Rear compartment stratification motor - Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus
- 9C52 - Ventilation flap motor - Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus
- 9C4A - Fresh-air/recirculation-air flap motor- Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus
- 9C4B - Defrost flap motor- Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus
- 9C4C - Footwell flap motor- Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus
- 9C4E - Front stratification motor- Flap motor does not respond to LIN Bus

CAUSE
- LIN Bus wiring shorted or open
- Faulty flap motor
- Faulty IHKA control module (panel)

PROCEDURE
1. This procedure will only work if the customer complaint is currently present. If the problem is sporadic, operate the vehicle until the situation occurs and then begin troubleshooting.
2. Follow the attached troubleshooting guide for helpful information on how to troubleshoot the IHKA LIN Bus system.
