Water Leak from Center Console with A/C Blower on High Speed
MODEL
E90 (3 Series) up to August 2005 Vehicle Production
SITUATION
The customer states there is water leaking from the front of the center console area when the Air Conditioning is used on high-speed blower.
CAUSE
Condensation is drawn from bottom of evaporator housing on high-speed blower setting.
PROCEDURE
1. Identify which version of IHKA housing is installed in the vehicle.
2. Remove the radio and heater control panel and inspect white label on front of heater housing.
3. The label will identify either Denso or Valeo.
4. Remove the center console
5. Remove the 4 screws as indicated.
6. A view of the heater box after the rear vent adapter is removed. The adapter shield can be installed through this opening.
7. A view of the bottom of the heater box (left) near the evaporator drain where the adapter shield (below) will be installed.
8. The adapter shield to the left will only install properly if the correct IHKA identification is performed as in step 1.
9. Install the adapter shield in the bottom of the air conditioning housing according to the IHKA identification: either Denso or Valeo.
10. A view of the bottom of the heater box with the adapter shield installed.
11. Ensure that the small tab locks securely into the evaporator drain hole (as seen from the underside of the drain hole).
12. The picture shows the installed adapter as seen through the vent outlet.
13. Reinstall the vent outlet cover (4 screws).
14. Reinstall the center console and retest the system.
