SUBJECT
DME FC 2A15 Minor Leak and 2A16 Superfine Leak in Evaporation System

MODEL
E90 and E91 with the N52 engine produced up to 9/2006

E90, E91, E92, and E93 with the N52K engine produced from 9/2006 up to 8/2007

SITUATION

The customer complains that the Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated, and one of the following faults is stored in DME memory:

^ 2A15 DMTL, minor leak - Leak greater than 1.0 mm

^ 2A16 DMTL, superfine leak - Leak greater than 0.5 mm

[NEW] CAUSE

The tank ventilation corrugated hose (the breather line that attaches to the tank ventilation valve with pipe) may contact the low side air conditioning pressure line aluminum ferrel. This contact may cause a small leak in the corrugated hose, resulting in the Service Engine Soon lamp to illuminate and the stored fault code.

PROCEDURE
[NEW] When the above faults are stored and a damaged tank ventilation corrugated hose is found, replace the damaged tank ventilation corrugated hose and install the rubber insulator on the AC hose as shown in the following procedure.





Install a rubber insulator, P/N 64 53 7 578 706 (1), on the air conditioning pressure line aluminum ferrel (2), to avoid contact with the corrugated tank ventilation line (3).

Once installed, be sure that the insulator is locked (1) into its final position on the air conditioning pressure line aluminum ferrel.

[NEW] Note:
TeileClearing authorization is not required for the tank ventilation corrugated hose replacement procedure described in this bulletin.

[NEW] Please write in the comment section of the warranty claim: "Replaced hose and install rubber insulator per SI B12 12 08".
