SUBJECT
Noises from the Roller Cover Retainers
MODEL
E91 (3 Series Sports Wagon)
SITUATION
When the luggage compartment roller cover is secured to the retainers in the luggage compartment, the sides of the roller cover may contact the plastic trim surrounding it and cause noise.
CAUSE
Tolerances of the components and an improper adjustment of one or both of the retainers make this contact possible.
CORRECTION
Adjust the retainer[s] if necessary and add a bump stop to each of them.
PROCEDURE
1. With the roller cover installed and secured to the retainers, check the clearance (A) on both sides between the cover (1) and the side trim (2).
2. If no clearance exists:
a. Remove the roller cover.
b. Loosen the 2 screws holding the retainer in place, and remove the retainer surrounding the trim by following repair instruction RA 51 47 156.
c. Slide the retainer to the outboard side of the car by 2-3mm.
d. Tighten the retaining screws and reinstall all removed trim.
3. Install a bump stop (1) to the upper, outboard corner of each of the 2 retainers.
