SUBJECT
Clicking Noise from Upper B-pillar Trim
MODEL
E90 (3 Series) produced up to August 2005.
SITUATION
Some customers may complain of clicking noises coming from the upper B-pillar trim or front seat belt while driving on a rough road.
Note:
See S.I. B51 30 05 for noise from lower B-pillar trim.
CAUSE
Seat belt spring washer can make clicking noises.
CORRECTION
In case of a customer complaint, replace the seat belt spring washer(s) with an improved spring washer.
Note:
Do not replace the seat belt because a new seat belt will not rectify the situation.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the bottom B-pillar trim per Repair Instructions RA 51 43 150.
2. Remove the top B-pillar trim per Repair Instructions RA 51 43 148.
3. Remove the top seat belt roller bolt (1) per Repair Instructions RA 72 11 030.
4. Replace the spring washer(s) (2) on the seat belt roller bolt (1) with only one improved spring washer.
5. Tighten the seat belt roller bolt (1) to 31Nm.
