Center Console Heats Up In Knee Contact Area

E90, E91 (3 Series)
The center console decorative trim heats up in the knee contact area. This usually happens when the customer has heat directed to the rear seating area.
[NEW] CAUSE
Design/Concept
PROCEDURE
Perform the following measures in case of a customer complaint:
1. Verify the customer complaint by running the vehicle to full operating temperature and directing full heat to the rear seats.
2. If problem can be duplicated, remove the center console decorative trim piece in accordance with Repair Instructions RA 51 16 212.
3. Inspect the decorative trim sealing elements at the 4 mounting clips as shown. Each clip should have a foam grommet in place.
4. Check that the air ducts are not damaged and are secured on both sides of the front of the center console. The passenger side is shown in the illustration.
5. Ensure that both indicated oval sealing plugs are
secure.
6.[NEW] If the above measures indicate that everything is in order, advise the customer to turn the thumbwheel for the rear vents to "blue" (cold).
