Lighting - Headlamps Vibrate Excessively

SUBJECT
Headlight Vibrations

MODEL
E90, E91 (3 Series)
Vehicles produced from November 30, 2004 to February 26, 2006.

SITUATION
The headlight may vibrate excessively while the vehicle is stationary or in motion.

CAUSE
Vibration characteristics of the engine and front end of the vehicle.

CORRECTION
In case of a customer complaint, perform the following procedure to both headlights.

1. Check all connections that are used to secure the headlight. If screws are missing or not sufficiently secured, then they must be replaced or tightened to correct BMW specifications.

2. Check the interior and exterior of the headlight for loose or damaged parts. If any loose or damaged parts are found then the headlight will need to be replaced.





3. Remove the front bumper cover per repair instructions RA 51 11 156.

4. Remove the front section of the inner wheel well cover per RA 51 71 038.

5. Remove the two highlighted bolts.





6. Install the headlight support bracket (1) with the slotted section facing down.

7. Reinstall the two bolts.





8. Tighten the three highlighted bolts to 6Nm.

9. Reinstall the front section of the inner wheel well cover per RA 51 71 038.

10. Reinstall the front bumper cover per repair instructions RA 51 11 156.
