PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION
ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP
FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Install Clip for Power Steering Line

MODEL
E90/91 (3 Series)

SITUATION
Hydraulic pulsations in the power steering hydraulic circuit can cause the metal line attached to the power steering gear to vibrate. This can result in a humming noise while turning the steering wheel.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves 325i and 330i vehicles equipped with all wheel drive, which were produced from 22 August 2005 through 05 September 2005.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System).

Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

Remove the front axle reinforcement plate, refer to Repair Instructions, RA 31 10 010 "Removing and installing/replacing reinforcement plate (AWD)".
Install the damping clip on the metal power steering line at the location indicated by the arrow in the illustration. Insert the clip between the line and the power steering gear then clip into place.
Rotate the clip into place between the line and the axle carrier and then slide to the right toward the bend in the line. Ensure the clip is secured in place between the line and the carrier.

Reinstall the reinforcement plate.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 458. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-278) and:

a. emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

b. punch out code number 458 printed on the label (2) and,

c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
